Lactation Consultation

We get asked a lot - “what happens in a lactation consultation?” The simple answer is that our lactation consultants work with you to achieve your feeding goals and overcome any obstacles that arise on your feeding journey. During our 60-minute consultation, we will address any and all questions and concerns you have, provide a physical examination of both the nursing parent and baby and create a personalized care plan. After your session, your lactation consultant will continue to check in with you periodically to ensure breastfeeding success and answer any questions that may arise

Induced Lactation and Re-Lactation Counseling

Induction counseling is for any parent who will not be physically pregnant with their child (ex. co-nursing, adoption, surrogacy, etc.) but would like to nurse. The more time you allow to prepare your body for lactation the better the likely outcome. Therefore lactation consultations and education can last anywhere from a few weeks to 9 months or more. Likewise, the time it takes to re-induce lactation can also vary tremendously. Re-inducing lactation takes place when a parent was physically pregnant with their child and initiated nursing but stopped and would like to start again.

Nursing Multiples

Are you expecting twins, triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, or sextuplets? Are you wondering how breastfeeding can possibly work with multiples?  We will guide you through the ins and outs of nursing multiples. Starting with a 2-hour pre-natal consult before babies are born. Your initial prenatal consult will include:

  • Creating a birth plan that facilitates a healthy breastfeeding relationship from the start

  • What to expect at the hospital, bringing the babies home and the first 12 months

  • Breastfeeding through complications (low birth weight, prematurity, extended NICU stay, jaundice, etc.)

  • The unique opportunities and challenges of nursing multiples

  • Building and maintaining milk supply

  • How to know if your babies are getting enough milk

  • And much more!

After you deliver we will assist in answering any questions or concerns that arise as well as providing all services of a traditional lactation consultation.
